IQTC Women: Mª Nuria Peralta

Mª Nuria Peralta studied a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from 2016 to 2020 at the University of Barcelona. During her academic training, she discovered the field of computational chemistry and became very interested in the applicability of computational tools in chemistry. As a result, she attended the Introductory and Advanced Courses in Computational Chemistry organized by IQTCUB in the summer of her first year of degree. The great experience of having attended the courses led her to start her first internship in the Biological Systems Modelling and Drug Design Research Group of Dr. Jaime Rubio in the summer term of 2019. During her last year of degree, Mª Nuria received a collaborative grant with the Material Science and Physical Chemistry Department.

Her bachelor’s degree final thesis was focused on the application of a recent method developed by the research group of Dr. Jaime Rubio (https://doi.org/10.1039/D0CP05471B) in the selective inhibition of the antiapoptotic proteins Mcl-1 and Bcl-xL. Based on this work, she presented a poster at the IQTC Virtual Meeting 2021 which was recognized with an award.

Currently, she is a scholarship holder student of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modelling (TCCM). Her desire is to continue being involved in research by pursuing a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modeling at the end of her master’s degree. She is very motivated to continue working in the study and development of new methods applied to the computational design of new drug candidate molecules.

In her spare time, Mª Nuria enjoys reading, watching films, playing music, drawing, sewing and playing board games with family and friends.
