Recognition of Scientific Excellence: Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu Accreditations
The Minister of Science, Innovation, and Universities, Diana Morant, presided over the recognition ceremony for the Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu Accreditations, highlighting the transformative capacity of these institutions to tackle the country’s challenges through science. The accreditations, awarded by the Government of Spain through the State Research Agency, serve as an acknowledgment of their research impact on citizen well-being and the innovative industry.
Morant also emphasized the 80% increase in the annual budget for these centers since 2018 and the rise in accreditations from 48 to 65. Severo Ochoa centers will receive 4.5 million euros over four years, while María de Maeztu units will receive 2.25 million. The event gathered representatives from the accredited centers and various authorities.
