The GREENS Project Wins Award at Sustainability Day 2025

The GREENS project, led by Dr. Maria Guix, researcher at the Institute of Theoretical and Computational Chemistry (IQTC) of the University of Barcelona, has been honored as one of the top sustainability initiatives of 2025 during Sustainability Day, held on October 21 at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid.

Funded by the Horizon Europe programme, GREENS focuses on integrating sustainability principles into small-scale robotics. The project applies the “5 Rs” (reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, and redesign) to the design, fabrication, and use of micro- and nanorobots, aiming to minimize their environmental footprint.

Running from February 2025 to January 2029, GREENS brings together multiple European universities and research centers — including the UAB, ESCI-UPF, the University of Zaragoza, and the University of Gothenburg — to promote environmentally responsible innovation in robotics.

Dr. Guix leads the project in collaboration with the ChemInFlow group, directed by Professor Josep Puigmartí, also from the University of Barcelona.

This recognition underscores the IQTC’s commitment to advancing cutting-edge research that not only pushes the frontiers of science but also aligns with the values of sustainability and social responsibility.
