FERTIAMONIA

Title: Use of a new hydrophobic/hydrophilic membrane for the recovery and valorisation of ammoniacal nitrogen from pig manure (FERTIAMONIA).

Program: Aid for knowledge transfer demonstration activities

Prof. Francesc Mas, PI of the BioPhysChem research group (subgroup of the Integrative Biochemistry Group) of the Department of Materials Science and Physical Chemistry & IQTCUB, in collaboration with the Environmental Biotechnology group, both from the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Barcelona, is the coordinator of the FERTIAMONIA project, in collaboration with the Centre d’Estudis Porcins (CEP) of Torrelameu (Lleida).

The general objective of this knowledge transfer demonstration activity is the recovery of ammoniacal nitrogen from the liquid fraction of slurry through a new hydrophobic/hydrophilic membrane, developed by the group, which allows the passage of both ammonia and ammonium, and other ions of interest as inorganic fertilizers (NPK).

Duration: September 2024 to June 2026
