Jardine, Malcolm

Postdoctoral Researcher

Malcolm Jardine’s expertise lies in condensed matter theoretical physics, specializing in large computational systems and materials science applications. He obtained his Master’s degree, with specialization in quantum optics, from the University of Strathclyde in 2017. In 2023, he completed his PhD at the University of Pittsburgh, with a focus on using first principle calculations to investigate nanowire/superconductor setups for of Majorana Zero Mode applications in the research group of Sergey Frolov. Following this, he joined the group of Noa Morom at Carnegie Mellon University as a postdoctoral research associate, furthering his work with density functional theory calculations on solid-state systems, with a focus on heterojunction interfaces and ARPES data comparisons, as well as applying GW calculation methods to semi-metallic Heuslers.

Malcolm is now assuming a postdoctoral research position at the Universitat de Barcelona in the GEM2 group, working with Maria Fumanal to apply machine learning techniques for the computational design of two-dimensional covalent organic structures for optoelectronic applications.
