Corbella, Marina

Lecturer

Research Area:
Biocatalysis and drug discovery

Marina obtained her PhD in Computational Chemistry from the University of Barcelona (Faculty of Pharmacy) in 2018, under the supervision of Prof. Carles Curutchet. Her doctoral research focused on studying the impact of the environment on charge and energy transfer processes in biological systems.

After completing her PhD she joined the group of Prof. Lynn Kamerlin at Uppsala University as a postdoctoral researcher and later as an MSCA Fellow (2019–2022). During this time, her research focused on loop dynamics and allostery in enzyme catalysis. Later she joined the group led by Prof. Carme Rovira at the University of Barcelona, where she focused on the study of molecular mechanisms in carbohydrate-active enzymes using QM/MM MD metadynamics.

She recently joined the Faculty of Pharmacy as a Lecturer. Her research focuses on understanding bacterial proliferation at the molecular level, exploring processes ranging from enzyme catalysis to the large-scale conformational dynamics involved in transcription factor–DNA binding. To achieve this, she applies advanced computational approaches, including QM/MM methods and enhanced sampling techniques.
