Curti, Mariano

Lecturer

Research Area:
Biocatalysis and drug discovery

Mariano received his PhD from the National University of Mar del Plata (Argentina) in 2017, under the supervision of Dr. Cecilia Mendive. His dissertation was centered on the use of photonic structures as photocatalytic materials. After a short postdoctoral stage in the same group, he moved to the Leibniz Universität Hannover (Germany), to work in the group of Prof. Detlef Bahnemann on different aspects of heterogeneous photocatalysis. In 2020 Mariano joined Institut Català d’Investigació Química (Tarragona, Spain), as part of Dr. Elisabet Romero’s group. There, he developed a computational line to study artificial protein – chromophore complexes, and later set up a home-built Stark spectroscopy instrument. In July 2025, he joined Universitat de Barcelona as Professor Lector. His research interests include photochemistry and the design of functional proteins.
