Maria Fumanal obtained her degree in Chemistry from the University of Barcelona in 2011, followed by a Master in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry from Universitat Rovira i Virgili. In 2015 she obtained her PhD under the supervision of Prof. Juan J. Novoa and Dr. Jordi Ribas Ariño about the radical-pair formation in supramolecular pi-stacked architectures. Immediately after she moved to France to work with Prof. Chantal Daniel at the Laboratory of Quantum Chemistry of the University of Strasbourg in the development of theoretical models for excited state dynamics in coordination complexes. In 2018 she moved to Switzerland to work with Dr. Ivano Tavernelli (IBM) and Prof. Berend Smit from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) within the NCCR MARVEL project devoted to the characterization and design of Metal Organic Frameworks for applications in photocatalysis. In 2020 she received a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship to join the Laboratory for Computational Molecular Design of Prof. Clémence Corminboeuf at EPFL and develop her research project about intramolecular Singlet Fission in copolymers. In April 2022, she joint the University of Barcelona as a Beatriu de Pinós postdoctoral fellow to work in the molecular design of Covalent Organic Frameworks for optoelectronic applications. Since January 2023, she is a Ramon i Cajal researcher at the Department of Materials Science and Physical Chemistry of the University of Barcelona.
