Junior Leader Fundació la Caixa

Research Area:
Nanomaterials for emergent technologies

Mario Palacios was born in Valencia, Spain, and received his PhD in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from the University of Valencia in 2021. His thesis focused on the synthesis and characterization of molecular magnetic materials for spintronic applications. In 2019, before completing his thesis, Mario undertook a 3-month research internship at ETH Zürich under the supervision of Prof. Salvador Pané, where he learned to combine porous coordination polymers with small-scale robotic platforms. After completing his PhD, Mario moved to the Czech Republic to conduct postdoctoral research under the supervision of Prof. Martin Pumera. There, he worked on hot topics such as light-propelled micromotors, 3D printing, and surface functionalization of 2D materials. In January 2022, Mario joined the Ibañez group at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria as a postdoctoral researcher, where he was involved in developing new Prussian Blue analogs for use in sustainable, efficient, and low-cost batteries. In March 2024, Mario was awarded a Junior Leader fellowship from La Caixa Foundation. Since July 2024, he has been conducting his research at the ChemInFlow Group at the University of Barcelona, hosted by Josep Puigmartí.
