Sergi Vela Llausí got his degree in chemistry at the University of Barcelona in 2009. In 2014, he completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Mercè Deumal and Juan Novoa, on the computational modelling of molecular magnetic materials. After his PhD, he joined the Laboratoire de Chimie Quantique in Strasbourg (France) to work with Prof. Vincent Robert on the study of spin transition processes triggered by temperature. Then, in 2018 he obtained a Marie-Curie fellowship to join the group of Prof. Clémence Corminboeuf at the EPFL (Switzerland) to apply screening and machine-learning methods to the discovery of new molecular switches triggered by light. Therein, he also developed methods to enable the data mining from crystallographic repositories aimed at the construction of chemically-diverse databases for quantum chemistry and machine learning. In 2022, he joined the University of Barcelona as a Beatriu de Pinós fellow to continue his research on spin transitions in molecular magnetic materials using electronic structure methods and data-driven discovery techniques.
