The stumbling blocks of a large-scale spin qubit quantum computer
Thursday 20th April 2023, 12:00h
Aula de Química Física
Spin qubits are among the leading candidates to reach large-enough quantum processors to unlock the technological applications underneath quantum computing. Although the state-of-the-art is still at the few-qubits scale, the large qubit lifetimes and the compatibility with the classical semiconductor industry foresee good scalability perspectives.
Nonetheless, the individual control of hundreds of spins is still a major technological challenge. The inherent physics of the fundamental particles carrying the spin, in this case electrons, present some unattended complications. In this talk, we will see how we can anticipate them to guide technological development by means of advanced numerical simulations. We will explore the impact of variability on the performance of an eventual quantum computer, and we will unveil how electron-electron interactions can compromise the readout of the individual spins.
