PhD position in Molecular Electronics

Duration: 4 years.

Expected starting date: September 2023

Gross salary: approx. 17 k€/year for the first two years, 18.2 k€/year in the third year and 22.8 k€/year in the fourth year.

Funding: FPI fellowship associated to the project “Estructura Electrónica y Propiedades Físicas de Moléculas y Sólidos Inorgánicos” with reference PID2021-122464NB-I00 funded by MICIIN (Spain).

Project: The research project will focus on the experimental study, using single-molecule current detection tools, of quantum transport through molecular and more complex systems. It aims to develop advanced spintronic devices that operate at room-temperature, which play a fundamental role in the advancement of future greener technologies and therefore on society welfare. The project will combine magnetoresistance with optically promoted molecular detection and other effects, such as, redox properties, chirality, encapsulation, and light irradiation.

Qualifications: The applicant should hold, or be close to completing, a Master degree in fields related to nanoscience, physics, chemistry or material sciences. Good verbal and written communication skills in English, and the ability to work well, both individually and as a member of a team, are required. Practical experience in electrochemistry, molecular electronics and/or surface science will be positively valued.

Application: Send a motivation letter and Curriculum Vitae by email with the subject “MolElec PhD” to Eliseo Ruiz (eliseo.ruiz@qi.ub.edu), Silvia Gómez Coca (silvia.gomez@qi.ub.edu) and Albert C. Aragonès (acortijos@ub.edu).
